How to install and configure Vanilla (forum) on CentOS 6.4

vanilla-logoVanilla is a light weight Internet forum package written in the PHP scripting language.
It is released under the GNU GPL.[1] Vanilla Forums are open-source, standards-compliant, customizable discussion forums. Before configuring Vanilla on the machine we have to configure LAMP on the machine.

How to install LAMP:


Update the machine by issueing below command

Install Apache and MySQL server on the machine

Configure MySQL to start at boot time and set the root password

Configure Apache to start and boot time and start the service

Install PHP and basic PHP5 modules

We have completed the LAPM environment and now we will download and install Vanilla on the machine.

Click here to download the latest Vanilla

After downloading the Vanilla application upload it to your server.

Now we will create a Database and User for Vanilla application on MySQL .

Login to MySQL database:

You can change the Database Name, User and Password as your requirement.

Move the Vanilla application to apache default document root i.e. /var/www/html

Change the permission on below folders:

Browse the application on the browser: http://localhost/vanilla

Vanilla_Setup-1

 

Fill up all required data on this page and Press “Continue”. That’s it now Vanilla forum is ready for use.
